Our Story
Weequahic High School – Class of 87 (Go Indians!) – Sam and Monica met in high school and had not seen each other since graduation in 1987. Although they went to the same school and may have had a class or two together, they really didn’t know each other that well. Monica knew he was the Capt of the Basketball Team and Sam just knew Monica. So what a surprise when 21 years later, Sam walks into Monica's favorite hang out spot “The Office” in Montclair. Monica immediately remembered Sam and called out his full name….Sam Bearfield! He looked over and immediately recognized Monica and flashed his trademark smile (that is what Monica remembers the most about Sam from school). They made small talk and exchanged numbers. Over the next month, they had brief conversations, once or twice, just really small talk. On Tuesday, May 27, 2008, Sam was on his way home from vacation and called to ask Monica out. They decided to meet later that evening at Macaroni Grill -- both of our favorite restaurant. They had such a wonderful time at dinner and decided they didn't want to evening to end and went back to "The Office" for a drink. They laughed, talked and enjoyed one another's company until the bar closed. Sam walked Monica to her car and followed her home to make sure she made it safely (Monica was so impressed of what a gentleman Sam was). Sam called the next day and they went out again. From that first date on they have been inseparable. On June 15th, 2008, they decided to become “official” and immediately started to plan a life together. It was like it was meant to be and everything just fell into place. All of their friends and family knew that this was something special from the happiness on their faces. They moved in together March 2009 and Sam surprised Monica at her 40th Birthday Dinner with an amazing proposal. She found out later that shortly after their first date, Sam told a very good friend of his that Monica was the one. It’s funny, Monica guess she felt the same way because she talked about Sam Bearfield to everyone who would listen.
Our Wedding
Funny looking back to the day we met, Sam had a bigger vision for the relationship than Monica ever could have imagined. Yes, we started talking about getting married really early in our relationship (like some new couples do) but, who would have thought it really was going to happen so fast without effort. From the beginning, Sam wanted to get married on September 24th....his mother's birthday (the late Eleanor Bearfield). We also knew we wanted to go away, St. Thomas was the choice, but we found it to be too expensive. We decided on Las Vegas since we love to party and have a good time. So, Vegas was our spot and September 24th was our date. We selected Mandalay Bay Resort to have our wedding ceremony. It is beautiful. Neither wanted to do the whole "traditional" wedding but Monica wanted a bridal party. We really would like our family and closest friends to witness our marriage, celebrate and have the time of their lives in SIN CITY!
Monica told Sam to skip the whole "engagement ring" thing and she would be happy with a wedding band presented to me at the ceremony. So, what a wonderful surprise when Sam got down on one knee and proposed to Monica at her 40th Birthday Dinner. It was amazing and so romantic, it was just like "SAM", doing whatever he could do to make Monica happy and to make her fall deeper in love with him. Monica has never been more surprised as she was that night. Although, some are still confused as to who got engaged, Monica or her mother.
The wedding colors were picked by Monica's sister, Antonia. We originally wanted to do an all white wedding but after seeing a picture with blue/brown, we fell in love with those two colors (brown being Monica's favorite color anyway). It was given an upscale name when Brooke said...TIFFANY AND GODIVA! Monica found the perfect dress for the bridesmaids. But instead of being blue/brown, there are more like minty green/blue and brown. So, the color has changed yet AGAIN!
We plan to have a ceremony filled with joy and love and then we will celebrate!!! Celebrate a new beginning and the most amazing journey called Life as Mr & Mrs Samuel L Bearfield III. We can't wait!!!
